Coach Metzinger’s Remarks on the last two weeks of competition:
Team scores are very deceiving to look at. The team is very inexperienced when it comes to varsity mat time. However in every match the wrestlers are starting to get better. I am seeing some of the things we are working in practice being used, and we are learning from our mistakes.
In wrestling one of the first things you learn is what not to do. Once you figure that part out, you can then work on what to do. I will give it to the wrestlers, they come in and work hard every day, they are eager to learn and the coaching staff does a great job with them. Come June we will be a much different team.
We have a tough week coming up, but we want to see good competition and learn! Tuesday we see Washington and North Pitt, then friday we see SW Onslow and Northside-Jax.
We are starting up club wrestling. We have to get the youth rolling around. Very successful programs have some form of youth wrestling. There are other things for athletes to do in the winter other than basketball an hunt. Find our facebook page for how to start coming to club practices and learning how to wrestle. Advanced practices will happen as high school season comes to an end.
